My name is Oscar. I am 24 years old and on the autism spectrum. I would like to tell you a little bit about my life and why I’m celebrating disability pride this month. I live on my own in the Bronx near Yankee Stadium and I work at Shake Shack in Forest Hills. I also sell handmade dog biscuits made by people with autism.

I’m a self-advocate for my own independence and that of others. I often participate in disability conferences. Remaining independent is one struggle that I face. Sometimes, when staff no longer work with the agencies I rely on, I don’t have the full support I need. I have disability pride because I can adapt to change and succeed anyway. I have disability pride because I can do what I want, experience new things, and make new friends. I can also take big steps in my life and do bigger and better things despite what others might think of me. I am proud of my accomplishments.

I’m grateful to be involved with INCLUDEnyc, where I volunteer at events and help raise disability awareness. I’m honored to be a part of the INCLUDEnyc family for many years and hope you’ll join our community.

March with us in this year’s Disability Pride Parade!
