The New York State Education Department has published The Special Education in New York State for Preschool and School-Age Students with Disabilities: A Parent’s Guide (the Guide). The updated Guide may be accessed on the Office of Special Education’s A Parent’s Guide to Special Education webpage. The Guide provides a broad overview of the special education process in New York State and serves as a resource to help parents understand some of the rights and protections provided by federal and New York State laws and regulations to parents and students throughout the process.
The Office of Special Education will present an overview of the updated Guide. The Guide will soon be available in twelve additional languages.
