Evaluations from Birth to 21
Your child’s cognitive, behavioral, and social development depends on reaching his or her milestones. Because of this, it is important to address any early signs of delay in your child’s development as soon as you notice them.
AGE 3 & UNDER
NYC Early Intervention Program, NYC Dept. of Health and Mental Hygiene
At this stage, your child’s evaluation will include:
- Cognitive skills
- Communication
- Social and emotional development
- Adaptive and self-help skills
- Physical/motor development
(Parent interviews and medical evaluation are also conducted at this stage.)
AGE 2 1/2 - 4 1/2
Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE), NYC Dept. of Education (NYCDOE)
At this stage, your child’s evaluation will include:
- Parent interview to determine social history
- Psychological evaluation
- Observation of your child
- Medical evaluation
Communication/speech and language, occupational therapy, physiscal therapy, and/or an educational assessment testing, as required.
AGE 4 1/2 - 21
Committee on Special Education (CSE),* NYCDOE
At this stage, your child’s evaluation will include:
- Parent interview to determine social history
- Psychological and educational evaluation
- Observation of your child
- Medical evaluation/ review of records
Communication/speech and language, occupational therapy, physiscal therapy, assisitive technology, and/or a functional behavior assessment testing, as required.
